Last Sunday, my boys and I went to see Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. They are the picky types so I never really know how they will like a show or event. My 7-year-old hasn't even been a fan of either the cartoon or live-action movie versions of the story. However, my husband, my son, and I are huge fans of the theater so it was worth a try to check this out with them. How did it go you ask? Well, I will let them tell you:
"I was surprised at how good the costume and set design was and the acting throughout was amazing. This is also by far my favorite version of Gaston!"- Dustin Wimer (Husband)
"Cogsworth was my favorite. He was really funny. I also liked watching the Beast turn back into himself. I did not know there was going to be so much singing though."- Logan Wimer (Son)
Yup, those are my boys. And yes, there was so much great music in this production. Not only the beloved classics we can sing every word to but there were many new scores that were a lovely fit in the story as well. This production of Beauty and the Beast is put on by the Moonlight Youth Theater but don't mistake that for a second-rate show. I was absolutely impressed by this very talented young cast, both in voice, dancing and acting. Lumiere and Cogsworth's friendship dynamic as "good cop-bad cop" types has always been my favorite in this story and I was not disappointed by this productions. Also, as my husband points out, in this show Gaston was over the top narcissistic and so much hilarity ensued.
Final verdict? Do not miss this show! This is a great one for both the kiddos, teens, and adults. You only have till Sunday, October 21st to catch it at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. Grab a warm blanket for the cool fall evenings enjoyed in this outdoor venue, take your own treats or enjoy the many in-house concessional offerings.
