5 Reasons I Switched to Safer Products with Beautycounter

By Stephanie Zito November 1, 2018

The day I switched to safer stands out clearly in my mind. It was August. I was standing outside Target in SUNNY San Diego with my 2 kids, and I was frustrated with my ‘natural’ sunscreen and skincare choices! (ever felt like that?!)

Enter my friend, Michelle, who introduced me to Beautycounter, a safer skincare company started by a mom in Santa Monica, Gregg Renfrew, who saw a gap in the market between products that are safe and that work. Armed with a ‘Never List’ card, with ingredients to look for that Beautycounter never uses, I went home to try some products.

I was blown away at the number of products I had been using that I thought were ‘good’ that were on the never list for being toxic.

I was ALSO blown away at how amazing Beautycounter’s day cream and serum felt, smelled… and worked. My fine lines diminished. My skin had, dare I say, a healthy glow! I was sold.

My 5 reasons I switched to safer products with Beautycounter:

  1. Ingredients - Beautycounter uses ingredients that work and are safe, like essential oils for fragrance and innovative ‘plant technology’ to adapt to our skin’s needs. What Beautycounter doesn’t use? Over 1500 ingredient that are harmful to our health, like parabens which are linked to breast cancer. In comparison, the U.S. lags far behind, only banning 30 ingredients considered unsafe. Click here to view our video on Beautycounter's amazing clean beauty mission.

  1. Performance - After a couple weeks of use, I saw my forehead wrinkles diminish. I saw my age spots fade. And I had people commenting on how good (radiant!) my skin looks. Beautycounter has been called the “Chanel meets Whole Foods” of skincare for good reason – their ingredients are safe and their products work.
  1. Trust – Beautycounter uses a rigorous 5 step process to ensure their products are free from harmful ingredients, testing the raw ingredients before they even get processed. I recommend using the EWG (Environmental Working Group’s) app “Healthy Living” to check your products for safety. Beautycounter’s products are ‘verified’ or a ‘1’ which means they pass EWG’s rigorous tests for safety.

  1. We are the company we keep –  Beautycounter keeps amazing company, like Patagonia and Seventh Generation, as a Benefit Corporation (B Corps). They go the extra mile to support people and the planet as well as profit. They actually do GOOD for the environment like using recycled paper for their gorgeous makeup palettes.
  1. I choose to make an income sharing what I love – What’s my best product recommendation? The business! Beautycounter gives me the opportunity to make my own hours, be present for my kids and make an income.

As consultants, we educate people that what we put on our skin matters and advocate for changes in cosmetics laws so one day, our kids will not have to read product labels so closely.  We are about progress, not perfection. And we can see the tide turning with Beautycounter at the forefront of dynamic changes for the better.
