Join us for free sports programs at the Linda Rhoades Neighborhood Center, located at the Vista Academy of Performing Arts. The program consists of instruction and games. There is no fee to participate, however, registration is required and is limited to 50 participants per program period. Registration Register in person at the Recreation Office, 200 Civic Center Drive, Monday - Friday, 10:30 am - 5:00 pm, or by phone at 760.643.5264. Registration begins one week prior to the start of each sport. A waiver must be completed to participate. Hula Basics is an introductory class for all ages and life stages. If you have ever been to Hawaii or have experienced the beauty and grace of hula, this class is for you! Maybe you took a lesson or two, but Aunty Kahealani will take it a step further. Moms, sign up with your daughter; Aunts, bring your nieces. It's sure to be a fun bonding experience. Mahalo! Ages 5-12 Develop hand-eye coordination and agility, and build self-confidence. Children learn basic strokes in a fun and supportive group lesson. Come with a racquet and an unopened can of balls. CPR Classes (Hands-On Only) Ages 12 and up Dec 13, 2-4 PM Join the Oceanside Fire Department; Hands-Only CPR classes. Take a few minutes and learn how YOU can help save a life! We'll be teaching adult, child, and infant CPR. Learn from our trained professionals, the cost is $5 per course, includes CPR booklet. Class will be held at El Corazon Senior Center. Ages 15 and up January 7-February 23 M 6-9 PM/W 6-9 PM/SAT 7-11 AM Brooks Street Swim Center This course is designed to provide qualified participants with the certifications required for employment as a lifeguard. Upon completion, graduates will receive American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer (CPR-PRO); Emergency Medical Response; Automated External Defibrillation (AED); and Oxygen Administration for the Professional. Course meetings include Monday, Wednesday evenings 6-9pm, AND Saturday mornings 7-11am. Prerequisite aquatic skills (300 yd swim, surface dive with brick retrieval in 1min 40sec and treading water for two minutes with hands in armpits) must be demonstrated prior to registration; Testing provided free of charge, Saturday's at Brooks St. Swim Center at 10:15 am on the following dates: November 24, December 1, 8, 15, 22, &29.
